In case of trouble
In case of trouble
A PhD may be rough. If you are in trouble, or feeling bad, do not stay alone ! The sooner you share your troubles the easier it is to find help.
Read again your thesis charter, which includes prescriptions to solve conflicts. You may ask :
* Your thesis committee
* members of your laboratory
* The doctoral school representatives
* PhD students representatives
* Anybody you trust
Some problems deserve a special attetion. Do not by-pass them, whether you are a witness or a victim.
- Burn out (in french)
A PhD is a lot of work. Usually much more than a typical job.
However you should not work night and day, WE included. There may be some times when extra efforts are required. But you must also keep a healthy life, including (some) hollidays. You will work better if you keep in shape.
These guidelines were written for the SciencesPo school so the mail contact and phone number are not valid for the doctoral school.
We recommend you to read these brochures (link above) about sexual harassment to help you to identify and react if need be. Indeed, a part of sexual harassment problems is that it is not always detected as sexual harassment by the victims or/and witnesses.
Moreover, contrary to popular belief, sexual harassment perpetrators are not only supervisors or bosses, it can come from anyone : PhD students, postdocs, researchers, professors, ... (male and female). We want to remind you that sexual harassment is against the law and only the perpetrators are to blame and not the victims.
If you are a victim or a witness of an inappropriate situation, you can contact the representative students, the representative from the Universities or the director of the doctoral school. You can also talk confidently to a doctor, a nurse or a social worker in the universities and/or laboratories.
