The Astronomy & Astrohysics Doctoral School calls for applications for PhD positions once a year.

Registration for a thesis at the ED can be done if the following conditions are met :

• Hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent diploma)
• To have the agreement of the thesis director
• To have full funding for 3 years of thesis.

Funding may come from different sources :

• The competition of the Doctoral School.
• The host team. In this case, the candidate will have to submit two applications : one to the Doctoral School (application), the other to the funding organisation (CNES, CNRS, ...) whose deadlines are specific to each funding.

Assessment of the 2024 competition

In 2024, the ED received 153 applications and awarded 26.5 doctoral contracts (including 5.5 from "Académie Spatiale") during the open to competition. The ED auditioned 59 applicants. Including other sources of funding, 59 doctoral students started a thesis in 2023.
